Musk finally realizes how hard it is to produce a reliable self-driving car

If Tesla has clearly taken the lead over its competitors in the development of autonomous driving , the promises around the implementation of such a feature have not yet been kept.

Elon Musk has often promised the arrival of autonomous driving in the next big system update, the V9, but its deadline is kept being pushed back. He finally admits that its implementation is close, but that it is much more complicated to achieve total autonomy, contrary to what he thought.

Two steps forward, one step back

Tesla CEO Elon Musk finally admits that developing autonomous driving is not as easy and fast as he imagined. Making a car autonomous, safe and reliable is quite difficult. The long-awaited FSD V9 ( Full Self Driving , autonomous driving according to Tesla) has long been announced by the CEO, but the schedule is constantly being pushed around and the date constantly pushed back.

This version 9 was announced in 2018, then again in 2019, but the American firm is still in the testing phase. Focusing feels a lot more complex and time-consuming than Musk expected. A video that has been circulating for a few days on social networks shows that a Tesla whose autonomous driving is activated fails to negotiate a sharp turn and ends up crashing. Everything is not yet ready, there is still work to ensure the safest and most reliable autonomous driving possible.

“ Coming soon, I swear!

This is Elon Musk’s promise on Twitter on July 3 concerning the arrival of the public beta version of FSD in version 9. He thus recognizes in this tweet that the development of autonomous driving is particularly difficult.

It is not easy to make artificial intelligence coexist with the real world. If he admits not having imagined that the task is so complex initially, he admits that with hindsight this was nevertheless obvious.
