Six years after the first opus, Axiom Verge 2 has a surprise release today following a new Nintendo Direct Indies rich in announcements.
Still developed solo by Thomas Happ, metroidvania will be available by the end of the day on Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PC via the Epic Games Store. A version specifically developed for PlayStation 5 is also planned for a later date – but the game is still playable with backward compatibility.
A new adventure from top to bottom
If it is presented as a sequel to Axiom Verge , this new episode reviews everything in depth.
New characters, new enemies, new abilities and a whole new world to explore. The common denominator, however, remains this philosophy very inspired by metroidvania, with this sprawling map to explore.
On Twitter, Thomas Happ also recalls that the player will be accompanied by a drone which can replace the character and which has skills and behavior all his own. Also, Axiom Verge 2 will make it possible to hack its opponents with, at the end of the day, the promise of “ interesting consequences ”.
A special speedrunning mode is also on the menu, as is one last key feature, which the creator is keeping secret so as not to fan the surprise.
