AMD: more powerful, more efficient RDNA 3 GPUs, first design series this year


The next generation of AMD graphics cards are expected to further improve significantly compared to RDNA 2.

While the shortages around the current generation of graphics cards are far from over, rumors and rumors are already focusing on the next generation.

Arrival of MCM design

Thus, first information has leaked about RDNA 3 which will logically follow, at AMD, RDNA 2. You should not imagine being able to take advantage of it right away since the actual release of the first cards is not planned, at best, before the end of next year.

However, AMD seems to be on the right track since rumors suggest that the Navi 31 and Navi 33 GPUs would be “ tape-out ” before the end of 2021. Remember that this name is there to signify that the last stage of development of the chip is affected.

This is where things get interesting. Indeed, RDNA 3 should be the first generation of MCM architecture – or Multi Chip Module  – for the general public. Indeed, if NVIDIA is working on a similar design with the Hooper generation, this should only concern the server segment.

2.5 times more efficient than Ampere?

At NVIDIA the next generation consumer is known by the code name Ada Lovelace and should keep a classic monolithic architecture. All in all, we can therefore expect a strong comeback from AMD in the consumer graphics segment.


Things have to be taken with some distance, but WCCFTech takes stock of all the rumors related to Navi 31 and Navi 33, AMD’s first RDNA 3 GPUs. For example, Navi 31 could come with 512MB of Infinity Cache, almost four times more than Navi 21 while the 256-bit bus would be the same.

In the opinion of many specialists, the MCM architecture will offer interesting gains at all levels: energy efficiency and performance would improve significantly. Of course, we will have to wait to have the products in hand, but we are talking about a performance factor of 2.5 compared to the Ampere generation – current therefore – NVIDIA.

    Ok but with what settings? If it is by comparing with the active DLSS of Nvidia and RT at the max then it is impressive.
