Amazon has unveiled its plans for video games. The giant is preparing a cloud gaming service under the name Project Tempo, but will also offer its own games in the classic way.
Amazon has been interested in the video game market for several years. The e-commerce giant has already bought Twitch, and will use its cloud strike force to attack the emerging streaming market against Google Stadia or Microsoft xCloud.
In the meantime, Amazon has understood that the most important thing is first of all to have games to market. This is why the giant today confirms the release of its first headline, Crucible, for the next month, in May 2020. This game was developed by Relentless Studio founded in Seattle by Amazon.
It’s not the only title provided by Amazon. The giant also announces the release of the game New World, a massively multiplayer online game, developed by another studio in California, created from the studio Double Helix Games bought in 2014.
This studio is also developing an MMO based on the Lord of the Rings license, without further details.
Interactivity on Twitch
Of course, Amazon’s asset is its Twitch subsidiary, which today dominates the video streaming market in the video game industry.
Amazon wants to launch games this summer that will be interactive between streamers and their audience. The giant has not yet given many details on the subject. Microsoft had already experimented with the Mixer service in this regard, and we also remember events like Twitch plays pokemon which had shown the popularity of this kind of idea.
Amazon has confirmed with the New York Times the development of its own streaming service. No details yet except that it is always a question of having games rendered on servers to stream only one image on a smartphone or directly on a TV, without the need for a high-performance console or PC .
Difficult to know more about this new service at the moment. Sources close to the project told NYT that the release was originally scheduled for the end of the year, but that the coronavirus epidemic could postpone the company’s plans for 2021.
